These are definitely unprecedented times and being stuck at home for weeks on end is surely driving us all a little bit crazy. But on the positive side it gives us time to do things that we just didn’t have time for before all this happened! Whether you are working from home or just basking in the time off, there is a lot of time on our hands now. Even though I love time off especially in the warm weather, lockdown has been particularly boring for me. So, when coming up with what to do to keep me busy, I thought I would make this a list for you guys to enjoy to!

I’ve made a list of things you can do during the lockdown so we can all stay safe and stay at home without going too stir crazy!

1. Puzzles, Puzzles, Puzzles

We can start this off easy with a puzzle. I personally love doing puzzles, especially the ones that make you want to rip your hair out because there are about 7 pieces that could all fit in one spot but just don’t. Doing a thousand piece puzzle with my mom usually lasts me about a week so it is a great time killer in these uncertain times.

I like to do puzzles because it gets my brain moving a little and makes me feel less idle without being too mentally exhausting. Currently I am working on a puzzle of Starry Night by Van Gogh (you can get one here! https://amzn.to/2BfoHoz

2.  Board Games

My family and I love a good game night (even if we do get way too competetive) Since lockdown started we have played an unprecedented amount of UNO and cards against humanity. Board games are a fun way to get some quality family time and some ‘FRIENDLY’ competition going! If you can’t play any physical board games there are always apps and computer versions of the board games you can play with your family from a distance!

I had never played UNO before lockdown started. I forced my family to play with me and now we cannot stop. All 5 of us love it and are extremely competetive at it. We like to play the physical card game more but we also all have the UNO app on our phones in case we fancy a quick go but don’t want to get the full game out.

3. Something Creative!

Why not try your hand at an art form? Whether you are an experienced painter who just hasn;t had time recently or you have literally not done a painting since that one finger painting in kindergarten, now is a perfect time to try and find a new way to express yourself!

I personally have been Bullet Journalling to try and get some creative juices flowing. It definitely makes me feel a lot calmer when I start to get a little anxious.

4. Crochet and Knit

I decided to learn how to crochet since my grandmas both taught me to knit as a child and I have always thought that crocheting was some kind of witchcraft to be able to make a hat or scarf with only one hook.

I have started to crochet a blanket with all the bits of leftover wool I have lying around the house by making random squares of different patterns to sew them all together at the end! I also have looked at patterns for the cutest little cow stuffed animals I probably will try before this lockdown is over!

It is definitely a fun activity to create something new from nothing and learning a new art form definitely takes time and is very rewarding when it starts to come together so it is the perfect time killer for us in lockdown.

5. Learn a new dance!

The big hype of the year seems to be TikTok. An app that allows you to post short videos of you doing dances, comedy sketches, pranks, experiments etc. and become the next hit social media star. Many people are using lockdown to learn the TikTok dances or choreograph their own. With everyone at home and online it seems like the best time to make your TikTok debut!

However, if you’re not going to sucumb to peer pressure like I did, why not learn some of those JustDance dances, or any one on youtube for some good exercise and some good fun with the family!

6. Binge watch some must needed TV shows

I live for rewatching TV shows over and over again but I hardly ever sit down to watch something new. The lockdown has given me a chance to not only rewatch some of my faves but to binge new shows (for me). We all have seen the Tiger King special and binge watched it in about a day, but personally I have been watching anything true crime! Any TV shows or movies you just haven’t had the time for before, suddenly you have a bunch of time on your hands! I’m using this opportunity to start watching new shows that have constantly been recommended to me as well as watching some Spanish soap operas!

7. Baking

I have also been baking a lot during the lockdown. A few favorites of my family have been Pecan Pie, Bailey’s cheesecake and Rhubarb crumble! Since we are stuck inside and no one will see our bikini ready bodies anytime soon, we might as well indulge ourselves a little bit!

8. Pizza from Scratch!

This is definitely next on my list. I made ravioli from scratch at the beginning of lockdown and have been itching to hop on this trend. Pizza is one of my absolute favorite foods, especially the ultra thin crust ones like I had in Florence this summer!

9. Yoga

I started following along with Yoga by Adrienne’s 30 day yoga challenge on youtube at the start of lockdown and I absolutely loved it. It offers a wonderful introduction to yoga and gives a good workout. I usually do it to end my day and I feel stronger every day I do it! Also, it’s burning off some of those calories from all the baked goods I’ve been eating!

10. Learn a new language

I have wanted to learn how to speak Spanish for a while but have never been able to dedicate the time to actually learn it. I have started watching tv shows in Spanish in all the free time and working on an app that teaches you the grammar. I have really noticed an improvement in my understanding of the language! Hopefully with some more effort I will be well on my way to learning the language.

This time is very hard and scary for everyone. Even though we are not sure what will happen next, we should find positives in the situations we are all in. Spend your time now however you want to! Relax and enjoy some much deserved time off and please follow government guidelines so we can all be as safe as possible!

Stay safe and stay home!
